We all need to learn right? Whether you are in school still or you are at work, there is always something new to learn. Your teacher tells you to learn geometry or your boss tells you to learn the operating system the company is using now. We all need to learn and then there’s the old adage “you learn something new every day.” Think about how many days are in a lifetime. If I learned something new every day in my lifetime, and learned it well enough, I would be a pretty darn smart guy. So what do we do to help us learn? Because learning new things isn’t always the easiest. I dare say its sometimes a very hard thing to do. One way to help us learn is quite literally to change our eating habits. Eating a healthy diet has been shown many times to improve focus, concentration, and memory. So here are some quick and simple helpful ideas of what to eat to help you learn new information quicker and easier.
- Fruit provides us with natural sugar for an energy boost without the nasty caffeine crash that we get from the ever popular coffee and soda that we seem to use a lot of to get an energy boost.
- Vegetables are a great source of vitamins, which improve brain power and functioning.
3.) Whole Grains
- Whole grains slowly release glucose, which provides your brain with the energy it needs to be alert.
4.) Non-Fat Yogurt
- Non fat yogurt contains probiotics, a special type of bacteria, which contributes to an increase in brain activity.
- Drink A LOT of water! Research shows that 75% of our brain is water, and keeping your brain hydrated increases brain power and functioning.
Foods to Avoid
- Avoid foods high in fat, fast food, energy drinks, soda, chips, and foods high in sugar (especially don’t use or drink things with fake sugar substitutes that have Aspartame in them).
This is a short simple list but it is something to remember and keep in mind next time you are struggling with your next homework assignment or finishing a project at work. A healthy mind is a healthy body. The mind and body are connected. Not only does eating healthy help you learn better, but it helps you in relation to depression, anxiety, etc… But that’s an article for another day. 🙂
